Based on the previous interview with Tsitra360, harwicks is an inspirating person to him. Today, I bring you an interview about harwicks! Here are some of the artworks done by him, I'm quite sure you see these deviations somewhere in EQD!
1)How long have you been drawing?
I've always been drawing... It seems that everyone starts out drawing at an early age, and many eventually stop (whether they get discouraged or for whatever reason). I never really gave it up, although it wasn't until my sophomore year in college that I decided to get serious about it as a career.
2)What programs do you normally use?
I do the lion's share of my artwork in Photoshop (CS2, I think). I've more recently taken to using a program called Manga Studio EX for linework, though, as I do like the looks that one can give you. I suspect it could be an even greater asset, but I only barely know how to work it currently.
I used to draw by pencil and then scan things in, but a few years before the show I came into a Wacom Cintiq, so now I do all of my drawing directly into one of those two programs above on that.
3)Attended art classes before?
In my sophomore year of college I transferred from the liberal arts school at my university to the fine arts school. Honestly, if you have the option of taking art classes, I highly encourage anyone to do so... I used to take pride in people being impressed when they found out that I had never taken an art class... now I just look at it as lost time. If I had the free time (and the funds), I would gladly attend art classes to this day... there's no shortage of things I see and want to learn how to do.
4)Why do you fav ponies?
I think I really connected with the show when I realized that people with much the same influences as I had are the ones tasked with creating adventures for these colorful little horses. The show is like a primer for geek interests, teaching little kids the awesome possibilities of various genres and tropes. Add that it's just a really well-done show with such likeable characters and a world that you can do most anything with, and I have no resistance.
5)How old are you this year?
Older than the average adult fan... I was first exposed to the show while taking care of the actual target audience.
6)Fav pony?
Twilight is my favorite. I've always had a soft spot for the smart one on a team, and I think she's a fantastically realized character with strengths and weaknesses that feed off of each other (which usually leads to moments of great triumph but occasionally lead to complete meltdown instead.) I miss some of her charming naivete from the early seasons, as well as a certain grumpiness that has been seen less often now that she's a princess though. Still, I love her.
Rarity usually gets my vote for straight-out most entertaining pony, however. Tabitha St. Germain kills me with her line deliveries.
7)What else do you enjoy other than drawing?
Reading. I love stories... I used to write them quite often as well, but whatever creative pool such things used to spring from has apparently dried up within me. Other than that, I enjoy watching sports and wishing I got outside more often, usually when I'm chained to my computer with deadlines approaching.
8)What other cartoons do you draw?
Not much, currently. Ponies get most of my free, fan-art time. I used to draw original characters and some Marvel and independent comic stuff. I recently came home from "Guardians of the Galaxy" with a need to draw Groot and Rocket though.
9)If Mane Six didn't exist, what would you draw?
I'm sure I would be drawing random things in-between assigned work... This show is really my first foray into fan-art circles, however. It's nice! My job gives me money to eat, which is always welcome, but nowhere near the amount of appreciation you get from fellow fans who really get a kick out of your drawing of a kick-ass pony.
10)Do comissions/requests/collaborations?
I haven't taken any yet... As mentioned, I do freelance artwork for a living, mostly for various video games, and so taking commissions would make my hobby time into just more work.
11)Impressed artwork?
Of the fan works that impress me, there are far too many to mention. I really love the creative output of this fandom, and have trouble keeping up with it all. There are artists out there that simply do jaw-dropping, fully painted work and it always inspires me to keep at it myself. I try to keep my favorites folder up to date, but I often come across someone whose gallery is just bursting with great images that I hadn't added yet. Still, I really enjoy finding new artwork to add to that folder, and get frustrated with a outstanding image in a Drawfriend isn't from DA, meaning I can't favorite it.
So as not to dodge specifics on the question entirely, I'll throw my shout-out to
... Those who pay attention to the ramblings on my page will know that we've become friends over the course of the show, and I really admire her artistic style... she manages to get such great expressions from the characters while maintaining a very cute, distinct look that still melds well with the canon looks of the ponies. She has some things in the works that I'm just dying to see released to the fandom.
12)Most favourited artwork?
Of my own? It's easily "Know When to Fold 'Em"
aka the one with the ponies playing poker. It was one of the earliest pony artworks I drew, but I doubt I'll ever top its popularity. I think it's the most accessible thing I've done to people both in and outside of the fandom, so I'm not really surprised.
13)Fav artwork?
Once again, of my own it would probably currently be "The Wrong Crowd for a Celebration"
. It was a great deal of fun to work on, and I was happy with how it came out.
14)Available at Bronycon everytime?
I'd love to make it to a convention someday and meet people in person... Hopefully it'll happen eventually.
15)Thank you! Hope to see you again!
Thank you! I appreciate the support. The people that make up this fandom have been really wonderful... I hope to be a part of it for a long time to come!
